Honestly. Some people do fine with 6 hours and others need the full 8 to function! What matters is how you feel the next day - if you're well-rested, alert, and without that constant tiredness, then 6 is working for you. But if you're yawning all day or irritable, you probably need more hours.

Don't go counting hours like it's an exact science, because everyone's different. Six hours can be enough if you sleep deeply and rest well, but most people function better with 7 or 8 hours; the thing is how you feel the next day, whether you've got energy or you need coffee at 10 in the morning to not crash. If you feel good with six, go ahead, but if you're tired all the time, your body's probably asking for more.

It really depends on how you feel and your personal rhythm, but most people need between 7 and 9 hours to function well the next day. If you wake up rested after 6 hours and can make it through the whole day without being exhausted, you're probably fine, but if you're dragging yourself around or need coffee to keep from falling asleep at the computer, your body is asking for more. What matters is that you feel energized, not the exact number of hours.
