Is iPad with Apple Pencil actually better than a Wacom tablet for digital painting?

I've been drawing traditionally for years and want to go digital. Everyone keeps saying I should just get an iPad, but I'm wondering if a dedicated drawing tablet like a Wacom would give me better control and feel more like actual drawing. What's the real difference when you're doing detailed paintings?

the ipad wins if you want a complete system that feels natural - the screen under your hand and pencil pressure response are genuinely smooth, plus you get instant feedback without looking away. wacom pen displays do similar things but cost way more, and the non-display tablets (just the pad) feel disconnected since you're watching a monitor while drawing on a seperate surface. for detailed work both handle precision fine, really comes down to your budget and whether you want everything in one device or don't mind a bigger setup.
