It depends on how much you print: if you use the printer sporadically, a multifunction inkjet is more practical and costs less, but if you print often a laser printer is worth it because the cost per page is much lower. If you barely print at all, honestly these days it's also worth just using online services or print shops.
I got a multifunction inkjet and I regret it, because original cartridges cost a fortune and compatible ones cause problems. If you print documents fairly often (like 20-30 pages a month or more), a mono laser printer is definitely worth it, especially used models: you find laser printers in perfect condition at ridiculous prices on marketplaces and they last forever. The one thing nobody mentions is checking the availability and price of toner in your country before buying the model, because some brands have toner that's impossible to find here in Italy.
