When I need something electronics-related, I almost always end up at a specialized store because they have people who actually know what they're selling and can answer technical questions that nobody at a supermarket will respond to. The price difference tends to be minimal these days, especially if you shop around, but at specialized stores you find more variety and besides, if something goes wrong you have someone behind the counter who actually understands the product. Supermarkets are only worth it if you're looking for something really standard and need to buy other things at the same time.

It depends on the product, but sometimes you can find basic stuff cheaper at supermarkets, whereas at specialized stores you save yourself headaches later if something doesn't work or you need to swap out the warranty.
