Is it worth collecting Funko Pop figures from Chinese brands?

I'm seeing that on Mercado Libre there are Funkos at half the price compared to the original Funko ones, but people say they're knockoffs. Honestly, I like them just the same and I don't really care that much if they're authentic, but I'm not sure if they'll break down later or if they lose value. Does anyone have experience buying those cheaper replicas?

What are you after with those Funkos - keeping them as an investment or just having them on a shelf? If it's the second one, honestly it doesn't matter much if they're knockoffs - if you like them anyway, go for it. The problem is those typical Chinese copies have way more fragile materials, the paint chips off easier and the details look kinda janky after a while. Plus, if you ever wanted to sell or trade them, they're worth practically nothing because they don't have authenticity, so financially it's not a good move.

If you only care about having something you like on your shelf, Chinese replicas work fine for a while, but the plastic quality is more fragile and they tend to fade or get sticky after a couple of years sitting on a shelf in the light. Here's the trick: before you buy, ask the seller for close-up photos of the seams and the eye paint, because cheap knockoffs almost always have uneven details that make it pretty clear they're not gonna age well. And forget about resale value, because even though original Funkos don't appreciate that much either, fake ones basically become impossible to sell. If you really like specific characters, it'll probably end up cheaper to wait for a discount on an original Funko than to spend money on several replicas that are just gonna end up sitting in a box somewhere.

Don't expect those knockoffs to hold their value or look good in five years, because the cheap plastic yellows or gets sticky with heat and humidity. What nobody really talks about is that the details fade over time - the paint on the face or logos wear off, so even if they look identical to the originals today, in a couple years they'll look worn. If you really like them and just want to display them on the shelf right now, go ahead with the low price, but don't store them hoping they'll be worth something later.
