Is it worth going to the theater these days with prices the way they are?

I've been years without going to the theater because I think ticket prices are insane. A show in Madrid costs me between 30 and 50 euros easily, and that's not even counting transport and dinner beforehand. Is it really worth it or are there ways to save money?

It really depends on what shows catch your attention, but before you write it off, check out Tuesday to Thursday performances - they usually have decent discounts - or see if there are alternative theaters in Madrid that charge way less than the big ones. If you're really into theater, it's worth it every now and then - watching it live is just not the same as anything else - but you're right that 30-50 euros per ticket is pricey, so look for discounts first, season passes, or municipal theater programs that sometimes have more reasonable prices.
