Is it worth paying extra for a room with a view of the landmark?

If you're planning to sit in your room and stare at the view, then pay extra for it. If not, it's better to put that difference toward excursions or food instead. I'd go for a cheaper room and spend what I save on actually walking around and seeing the sights in person, rather than through a window.
