What games do you actually play, and how often are you on the go? I'd say the thing is really worth it mainly if you actually want to game on the move and aren't just sitting at your desk all the time - otherwise it's just an expensive gadget collecting dust. One important point a lot of people overlook: battery life varies a lot depending on the game, and with demanding titles you sometimes only get 2-3 hours before you need to charge again. That can get frustrating when you're traveling if you're counting on longer gaming sessions 🎮
Don't just upgrade blindly because everyone's talking about it. The Steam Deck is only worth it if you actually have a concrete use for it. If you're gaming on your PC at home and you're happy with that, you don't need it. But if you're out and about a lot or prefer playing from the couch, it's genuinely practical. The flexibility is really the key point - you can use your Steam library anywhere.
The tech is solid, the performance is fine for most games. Graphics-wise it's not amazing, but it's okay for portable gaming. The ergonomics are comfortable, the battery lasts a decent amount of time. A big advantage: it runs Linux and is open, so you can also load emulators on it and play retro stuff. If that interests you, it becomes even more appealing.
What should hold you back though: the investment isn't small, and not all games run perfectly. You need to know your way around settings or have time to research. The bigger question honestly - will you actually use it regularly, or will it end up in a drawer after two months? That's always my deciding factor. If you're already a gamer and need the mobility, I'd go for it.
