Is it worth visiting Iceland in October 2026?

Planning a solo trip to Iceland next month and debating whether October is still decent weather-wise. I've heard the northern lights might start showing up then, but I'm worried about the roads being closed or attractions shutting down early. Anyone been recently and have actual experience with autumn conditions there?

October's a mixed bag - you'll get some northern lights activity and fewer tourists, but weather gets pretty harsh with shorter daylight (maybe 10 hours or so), rain, wind, and occasional snow that can close highland roads. Most major attractions stay open though some seasonal tours wind down, so if you're flexible and don't mind the cold, it's doable; just pack serious gear and check road conditions before driving anywhere.
