Is it wrong to leave someone on read when you're not interested in them?

I've been ignoring this guy I met at a party for a week now. He's sent me three messages being nice about it, but I'm just not into him and I don't know how to tell him no without sounding harsh. Should I keep ignoring him or is it better to be direct?

What would you rather receive if you were in their shoes? Ignoring them for another week is just going to make it worse, because they'll keep sending messages and feel more and more rejected. The best thing is to be honest but kind: something simple like "hey, you're a cool person but there's no chemistry on my end, sorry" takes two seconds and gives them closure. That way they're not left waiting and you don't have to carry the guilt of ignoring them.

that week of silence is already a rejection in itself, so why drag it out! better send something short and honest like "hey, you're a great guy but I don't think there's chemistry on my end, I wish you all the best" and that's it, without giving him false hope. he's gonna process it way better than if you keep him on read because you're giving him clarity and respect, which most people appreciate even when it hurts.
