Is the PS5 Pro really worth it or just marketing hype?

I've had the regular PS5 since 2021 and I'm not sure if I should get the Pro. The games I have run fine, but I saw that the Pro has better performance in 4K. Does anyone here already have the Pro? Is it worth the price?

A real answer depends a lot on your setup and what you play. If you're happy with the regular PS5 running your games at 60fps or 30fps with ray tracing, honestly the Pro isn't a must-have upgrade. The thing is the visual difference becomes more obvious in 4K with a quality TV - and then yeah, an extra 30-40% performance is the real deal, games run smoother, less texture pop-in, stuff like that. But if you're playing in Full HD or have a not-so-great TV, you won't really notice the difference for the price you're paying.

The marketing side definitely exists, because Sony launched the Pro at a pretty steep price and no discounts in the first few months - hardcore gamer stuff. Now, its tech is legit (PSSR, more VRAM, improved processor), so it's not just talk. The real question is: are you bothered by your current performance or is it more curiosity? Because if your games are running well and you're happy, save the money for when the next generation comes around. But if you really like ray tracing, want stable 120fps, or you're thinking about keeping your PS5 for another 5-6 years, then it makes more sense to consider it.

beatriz_rodrigues asker I have a quality 4K TV and I play a lot with ray tracing, but I'm still unsure if the 40% performance boost justifies the hefty price tag!

The Pro is definitely worth it if you're gaming in 4K on a display that takes advantage of that and want stable 60fps in the most demanding games - the difference is real, it's not just marketing. But if your regular PS5 is running fine and you don't have a top-tier display or don't mind dropping graphics a bit to keep it smooth, honestly it gets too expensive for what you gain. The real catch is the price, because technically the Pro is clearly more powerful, but upgrading from a regular one that works well to a Pro is more of an enthusiast thing than a necessity.

The real question here is whether your display and your gaming habits justify the investment. If you're happy with the regular PS5, it's probably because you either game at 1080p/1440p or frame drops don't bother you much. The Pro does make a difference, but it's in a pretty specific niche: people with a decent 4K TV who want constant 60fps in heavy AAA titles and are willing to spend a lot of money. Outside that reality, the upgrade isn't that impressive.

What the other comments didn't mention is that a lot of games don't even let you choose between quality and performance on the Pro - it's up to the developer what they provide. You might find a game you love and discover that the Pro version doesn't have a 60fps option, just leaves you at 30fps with better graphics. That's frustrating when you paid extra for it.

If your PS5 is running fine and you're not constantly hitting the machine's limits, leave it as is. When you reach a point where it actually bugs you that you can't get 60fps in that specific game or in 4K, then you think about upgrading. Right now it seems like just a want, not a need.

I have a 4K TV at home and honestly, the visual difference between the regular and Pro versions is way smaller than what they're charging for it. If you're already happy with what's running, it's not worth dropping that much money just to get a few more frames or slightly sharper 4K.

All this talk about it being an essential upgrade that I see around is just hype, man. The regular PS5 is still an amazing machine and players who bought it to be happy aren't missing out on anything by skipping the Pro.
