in my view it makes sense, and here's why. i'm someone who likes to verify everything myself, so i'll be honest - printed menus are necessary. first, not everyone has their phone on them or it might be dead. second, some people just don't trust digital menus (and i get that). third, there are older folks who don't know their way around smartphones, and that's fine. the waitress is seeing a general trend - yeah most people scan codes, but that doesn't mean menus aren't needed
the problem is that places are betting only on the majority now and forgetting about everyone else. it's like if the metro removed signs because everyone uses yandex.maps for navigation. convenient for maybe 90% but inconvenient for the 10% left behind. in 2026 this sounds even weirder because technology should complement, not replace
if they're not listening to you at a cafe then just go somewhere else where they're more respectful to customers. there are plenty of those places. i always ask for a printout at stores instead of an email receipt - it's my standard for verification. so you're not alone in your choice
