My Kyocera M2040dn has been making a squeaking noise when printing since today. There was nothing like that before. The printouts still look normal, but the noise is getting louder. Could it be the roller or should I be worried?
The squeaking noise isn't necessarily a sign of the roller, but rather wear on the bearings or the fusing unit - unfortunately that's something you can't just repair yourself. If it gets louder, you should take that seriously, because the printer is signaling that something's wrong and it could turn into a real breakdown otherwise. My tip: give Kyocera a call or check the user manual to see if there's anything about noises - sometimes just a service or cleaning helps. But if your printouts still look normal, at least you've got some time before it becomes critical.
With something like that, I wouldn't wait too long - when the noise increases, it usually means something in the fuser unit or the rollers is starting to wear out, and the longer you keep printing with it, the more expensive the repair will be later 😅 Important: don't try to fix it yourself, because you'll lose your warranty and you can easily damage the heat-sensitive parts - better to call a technician, they can usually tell pretty quickly what's wrong.
