Depends on your actual usage. i got a multifunction printer like 3 years ago and barely use the scanner part, so for me it was kind of a waste since the print quality isnt as good as my dedicated printer would be. but if youre someone who scans receipts, documents, photos regularly then the convenience is probably worth it - saves desk space too. id say go multifunction if scanning is actually part of your routine, otherwise just grab a solid printer and maybe a basic scanner if you really need it.

I'd lean toward a separate scanner if you're doing serious document work, honestly. At my lab we've got this multifunction beast that's always jamming or acting weird with the scanner, and when something breaks you lose both functions. I grabbed a basic dedicated scanner for home last year and it's been so much more reliable - I scan all my textbooks and notes without worrying about messing up my printer setup. Yeah it's more desk space, but if scanning's important to you the quality difference really is noticeable.
