My ASUS VivoBook from early 2024 keeps having this weird issue where the trackpad just freezes for like 10 seconds, then works again. It happens randomly throughout the day and it's super annoying when I'm working. I've tried updating drivers but nothing helped. Is this a hardware failure or could it be a software thing?
try disabling touch input in device manager - go to devices, find touchpad, right-click and disable "touch screen" or any input devices you're not using, since sometimes windows gets confused between trackpad and touchscreen and causes freezes like that. if that doesn't work, check bios for any power management settings affecting the trackpad, or try rolling back your chipset drivers specifically (not just trackpad drivers) since asus vivobooks sometimes have conflicts there. if both of those fail then yeah it's probably hardware, but the driver thing gets overlooked way more often than actual failures in these models.
