A week ago my yellow canary stopped singing and just sits on the branch all day without moving. He's eating normally but he's very still. What could be wrong with him? Is it normal for him to do this at certain times of the year?
He's probably molting, which is when canaries look dull and stop singing while they're changing their feathers, so it's normal. If he's eating well and doesn't improve in two or three weeks, then it's worth taking him to someone who knows about birds, because it could be stress, lack of light, or a health issue.
Molting is an option, but a week is pretty short and canaries usually keep eating normally during that stage - what you're describing sounds more like stress, temperature changes, or lack of light, which depress them much faster. I'd check if there are drafts where the cage is, if it's getting enough natural light (they need quite a bit), and if there are loud noises or sudden changes in the environment; often just moving the cage to a quieter place with better lighting they improve in days.
