I've noticed for the past two weeks that the zucchini leaves are starting to turn yellow from the edges toward the center. I water them every day and the soil seems moist to me. Could it be a disease?
Probably too much water, especially if the soil is always humid 😅 try reducing watering (maybe every 2-3 days) and make sure the drainage is good, because zucchini don't like wet feet. If it keeps happening it could be a nitrogen or magnesium deficiency, but I'd say start with the amount of water!
You guys, I get your point about the water thing, but I want to add something I learned the hard way during a trip to Tuscany years ago, when I stopped at a farmhouse and the owner grew the most beautiful zucchini. He explained to me that the problem isn't just how much you water, but *how* you water. If you spray the leaves or water from above, the leaves stay wet and develop fungus like powdery mildew, which starts exactly like that, with yellowing from the edge. Try watering directly at the base of the plant, not the leaves, preferably early in the morning. And yeah, I'd cut it back to every 2-3 days instead of every day, especially if it rains.
Too much water anyway is really the number one enemy of zucchini. If the soil is always wet, the roots rot and can't absorb nutrients - it's like the plant is starving even though it has everything it needs. Check that there's good drainage, maybe raise the soil a bit or add sand if it's too compact. If you see it getting worse, you could also remove the most damaged leaves so the plant doesn't waste energy.
One thing that saved a disaster of a harvest during a road trip in Calabria was adding some potassium to the soil - zucchini love it. Nothing fancy, regular fertilizer does the job. But first of all, cut back on watering and wait to see if it improves. Let me know how it goes if you want!
