Orchid blooms falling off after I bring it home from the store

GR grace1981 IN 🔍 Enthusiast 👁 100 ⚑ Report Orchids

I bought a phalaenopsis orchid last week and it had these beautiful pink flowers when I picked it up. Now like half the blooms have already dropped and I haven't even done anything to it yet. Is this normal stress from moving or am I doing something wrong with the environment?

This is pretty normal actually - orchids hate change and dropping blooms is their way of dealing with the stress of moving to a new environment. Store orchids are often grown in perfect conditions with consistent light and humidity, so the shift to your home can shock them. The good news is it doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong, just that your plant needs time to adjust. Once it settles in, keep it in a spot with bright indirect light, don't overwater (let the medium dry out between waterings), and try to maintain decent humidity - that usually helps them stabilize and eventually rebloom.
