Should I be worried about buying a Volkswagen right now?

Volkswagen just announced an $11.5 billion profit warning and apparently a lot of it is due to problems with Porsche. Is this a sign that VW's quality or reliability is going downhill, or is it more of a financial restructuring thing? Wondering if this affects their other brands like Audi too.

A profit warning is mostly a financial/accounting issue and doesn't necessarily mean the cars themselves are suddenly unreliable - it's more about operational costs, market conditions, and how they're dividing assets among brands. Porsche and Audi are separate entities within the VW Group, so problems at one don't automatically tank the others, though they do share engineering and supply chains which could ripple across. Are you looking at a new or used VW, and which model specifically? That matters more for actual reliability than corporate restructuring news.

Richard Davis asker Looking at a used Golf from 2023. Mainly concerned about potential recalls or service issues down the line.
