Should I replace brake pads before they're completely worn?

My 2024 Toyota keeps showing a brake wear warning, but the pads still feel like they work fine. I've got maybe 30% left on them. Is it better to go ahead and replace them now or wait until they're actually metal-on-metal? I want to avoid damaging the rotors.
