TV shows black screen when coming out of standby

My LG TV is doing something weird: when it comes out of standby mode, the screen stays black for like 3 seconds before showing the normal picture. I don't know if it's a firmware issue, a bad HDMI cable, or if it's actually a defect in the TV. Is anyone else experiencing the same thing?

Don't go messing with the firmware without good reason, because most of the time it's something simple. Start by testing another HDMI cable or even a different HDMI port on the TV, since a loose connector or worn-out cable causes exactly that kind of image delay. If changing the cable doesn't fix it, try unplugging it from the outlet for about 30 seconds and plugging it back in - that usually clears up any software glitch. If it keeps happening, then it's time to call LG support, because it could be a power supply issue or a problem with the panel itself.

Before you mess with anything, try plugging the TV directly into the wall outlet instead of using a switched outlet or extension cord - sometimes the problem is just the standby not cutting power properly and it leaves intermediate components in a weird state. If that doesn't fix it, then go ahead and try a different HDMI cable or a different HDMI port, but most of the time it's actually something so simple it's surprising.
