I just found out that some places won't accept a physical ID card anymore and want the digital one. The problem is my phone is old and I don't know if it works with the app. Is it mandatory to have the ID on your phone or can I still carry around my regular card?
That's not quite how it works. Your physical ID card is still valid in most places, even though more and more places (especially government offices and banks) are switching to digital because it's more convenient for them.
The thing is, your phone has to meet certain requirements (minimum Android 8 or a fairly recent iOS, plus enough storage), so if it's pretty old it might not let you install it.
But if that's the case, you just carry your old plastic ID card and you're good.
For now it's still perfectly legal to identify yourself with a traditional ID - there's no requirement to have the app. That said, I'd recommend checking whether your phone is compatible when you get a chance, because having both options covered is handy.
The physical ID card is still completely valid, so don't worry - nobody's going to force you to have the digital version if your phone doesn't support it. I still carry the old-school card and I've only had problems at one bank where they kept pushing the app, but when I showed them the physical document they were fine with it; the thing is that some places have weird procedures or employees who don't really understand how the transition works. If your phone is old, the app probably won't run, but that's not your problem - the government hasn't banned the paper ID yet, so you're still legal with what you've got.
