Dreams that vivid usually have to do with something that worries you or intrigues you in real life, even if you don't have it totally clear. That "I know who it is but I don't recognize them" thing you're describing is typical of when your mind is trying to process someone important or an aspect of yourself that you still don't fully understand. Sometimes it happens when you're expecting communication with someone, or when there's something unresolved in your head about a relationship or situation. The thing is, if the dream left you with a strong feeling, your subconscious was probably sending you a message about something you need to pay attention to.

I get something similar when I'm processing something without realizing it - like, my brain is ruminating over a person or a situation and that night they show up in the dream but distorted or unrecognizable. What I'd add is that that kind of realistic video call could be your mind practicing a conversation you actually want or fear having with someone in your life, and that's why you can't see the face clearly - because it's not a specific person, but the idea of something you need to communicate or work through.

When I have those dreams where I "know" who someone is without actually recognizing them, it almost always means my mind is mixing features from several real people or situations - like putting together a puzzle with pieces that don't quite fit. It happened to me recently with a video call dream from college where I dreamed I was talking to a professor who had another guy's face, and then I realized I was worried about two different things at the same time (a presentation and an awkward conversation I had pending). The question is: did that dream happen after something stressful or when you had something weighing on your mind that wasn't resolved?

elena86 asker Yeah, I had a complicated work meeting that day that didn't end well, so that probably had something to do with it.
