My nails started chipping a lot when I began spending all my time at the computer, and I found out that really moisturizing them makes a huge difference. Use creams or oils specifically made for nails at least once a day, especially before bed, and keep your nails short so they don't go through as much stress. Avoid using them as tools to scratch or pry things open, and if you paint them often, give them a break between applications - your polish absorbs a ton of moisture from the nail bed.
How much time do you spend with your hands in water during the day? Because that's the real enemy - water softens them and then they shrink, making them chip right away. I've noticed that after my morning runs, when I wash my hands thoroughly, if I don't dry them completely and don't put oil on them right after, by evening they start flaking off. Constant hydration really does help, but what made the biggest difference for me is just avoiding keeping them wet for long - I always dry them immediately, and I wear gloves when I'm cleaning.
I've noticed that what really makes a difference is protecting your nails during dirty or wet work - gloves when you're touching water, soil, or cleaning products, because constant moisture weakens them a lot 💧 Then yeah, cuticle oil helps, but if you don't shield them from what's damaging them in the first place, the rest is just a temporary patch.
