Ever notice how you can't just swap a battery in your phone anymore? Right to repair is basically the push to let people (and independent shops) actually fix their own devices instead of being locked into manufacturer repairs - stuff like making parts available, releasing repair manuals, and not bricking devices when you open them up!
Right to repair laws force manufacturers to sell replacement parts and provide repair manuals so you can fix your own gear instead of being locked into expensive official repairs or forced to replace the whole thing. The idea is that once you own something, you should actually own it - not be stuck paying whatever a company charges because they're the only ones allowed to touch it. A few places have already passed versions of this, and more regions are pushing for it, especially for phones and appliances. It's basically a pushback against planned obsolescence and the repair monopolies companies have built up.
