What's the deal with someone writing 1000 articles for the Guardian?

This is pretty wild - someone's hit a milestone of 1,000 articles written for the Guardian's country diary column. That's a huge amount of work over however many years they've been doing it. Curious what keeps someone going for that long on the same gig and what kind of stuff they've been writing about all this time.
