It's not really something where there's a huge major difference! Chess.com is more popular and you gotta pay if you want all the features, while Lichess is free and open source with a good community but fewer players overall.

Lichess lets you access everything without spending a dime, while Chess.com you'll quickly feel the limitations if you don't pay for a subscription. That's the key difference for most people.

After that, it really depends on what you're looking for. Lichess has a real community behind it, the analysis algorithms are solid and you can play against bots at all levels. Chess.com has more educational content and tournaments, but you gotta pay to take advantage of it. Both work well, it just comes down to your budget and which interface appeals to you.

If you play casually, Lichess is plenty and you keep everything free, but on Chess.com you really gotta watch out not to get trapped by their subscription system that hides stuff in the interface as soon as you start improving a bit. The community is bigger on Chess.com though, so it depends if you're just looking to train or if you actually want to interact with a lot of people.
