Which gravel bike should I get: aluminum or carbon frame for weekend dirt riding?

I'm looking to buy myself a gravel bike for weekend rides out in nature. I've seen options with both aluminum and carbon frames. There's a significant price difference, but I'm not sure if it's worth it for my level of riding - I'm just an enthusiast, not a racer. What would you recommend?

Carbon is pricier mainly for weight reduction and better shock absorption, but for weekend rides that's not really critical. Aluminum is plenty durable, easier to maintain, and if you crash it's no big deal - plus at a casual pace you'll barely notice the difference in comfort.

You're better off spending the money you save on good tires, suspension, or components - that'll make way more difference to your riding enjoyment than frame material will.
