I totally get that "more interesting" is different for everyone, but here's what I've noticed - the quizzes that really pull you in are the ones where the questions aren't just straight facts, but little riddles or paradoxes. Like, when they ask not "in what year" but "why did this happen then," or when the answer seems obvious but it's actually something completely different. Micro-history quizzes also work really well - ones about people who changed something weird and obscure, but it ended up affecting everything else. They just feel more alive than just listing dates and kings.
I really like quizzes where you have to guess based on photographs or museum artifacts - at least you can visualize what it's about instead of just memorizing dates. But if there are no hints at all, then the most interesting ones are about everyday life of ordinary people in different eras, not just kings and wars.
