My old plastic windows from 2010 are still in good shape, but with all the energy talk going around, I'm wondering if I should replace them. Triple glazing everywhere? Or is double glazing still enough if the insulation quality is good?
Triple glazing is basically the standard these days if you want to think long-term. Your windows from 2010 are pretty much out of the game by modern standards. The good news: double glazing with really solid frames and seals still works fine, but triple isn't just hype - the differences in U-value are measurable, and especially in winter you'll notice it in your wallet. If your 2010 windows are still airtight and not giving you any problems, you don't need to swap them out tomorrow, but in the medium term (say the next 5 to 10 years) it's worth doing the upgrade given the energy costs we're dealing with.
As for where things stand in 2026: the market has clearly shifted to triple glazing. Pretty much all the big manufacturers offer it as their standard solution now, and the price differences aren't as crazy as they used to be. Especially if you live in an older building or have poor insulation, you'll really feel the difference. Best thing to do is get some concrete quotes with U-values and have them calculate it for you - with your current heating bills, it'll become pretty clear pretty quick. And yeah, frame quality matters, but combined with triple glazing you really can't go wrong.
