Why doesn't Riccardo Scamarcio do Italian films anymore?

I've noticed that over the last couple of years Riccardo Scamarcio seems to have mainly chosen international productions and I hardly see him in Italian films or series anymore. I was wondering if he's consciously decided to shift direction in his career or if there's a specific reason behind this choice.

There's no official statement explaining a conscious choice, so it's hard to say whether it's a strategic decision on his part or simply how things worked out with the projects he was offered. What is visible is that in recent years he's worked on international productions more frequently, but this could depend on various factors - the availability of interesting roles, the fees being offered, or simply the timing of projects that suited him during that period. Without a direct statement from him, it's difficult to say whether he intends to completely abandon Italian cinema or if it's just a phase in his career.

Scamarcio has worked on international productions even before, like that film with Liam Neeson a few years ago, so it's not exactly a total break with Italy. The thing is, he probably makes more money doing English or American films, where budgets are higher and global visibility is guaranteed, whereas Italian cinema offers less in terms of earnings and international audience. It's not necessarily a conscious, deliberate choice on his part; it could simply be the natural result of how the market works - good actors seek out the best opportunities, and right now those tend to come more often from foreign productions.
