The problem is that Flamengo has pretty chaotic financial management - they spend big but can't renew contracts at the same pace they lose players. Arrascaeta, Viña, Gerson, these guys leave because they get better offers from abroad (bigger salaries, European projects) and the club either can't keep up or prefers to sell so they don't go even more broke. It's like that team that wants to be big but doesn't really have the structure to hold onto quality players, you know? Unfortunately it's a cycle that just keeps repeating itself.

It's not just a matter of poorly managed money - Flamengo's in a tight spot because European teams keep offering way better contracts and the player, obviously, prefers to make more abroad. Arrascaeta specifically left for River because he accepted less, but most of these guys who leave are actually looking at Europe. We see Flamengo spending a lot, but they can't offer what a PSV or an Italian team offers. It's like that dilemma: you want to keep your core squad, but the player who came up through the club has better offers on the table and you can't (and frankly shouldn't, financially) compete with that.
