I've been watering my lawn about 3 times a week, but over the past month I've noticed these brown dead spots spreading across the yard. They seem to get worse in the afternoon. Could this be a disease or am I doing something wrong with my watering schedule?

Those brown patches could be fungal disease, insect damage, or compacted soil, but watering in the afternoon actually makes it worse - fungi love wet foliage in heat. Try watering early morning instead, and make sure water drains properly so the soil isn't staying soggy.
