I'm wondering if he's stopped doing television or if he's busy with other projects. The last work I remember from him was a couple of years ago, and after that I haven't seen him in any RAI or Mediaset series.
I couldn't tell you for sure what he's doing right now, maybe he's working on film or international projects that don't get much airtime on Italian TV, or he's simply decided to slow down the pace. Actors sometimes disappear from the TV circuit by choice or because they're waiting for scripts that really interest them, it's not uncommon. It might be worth checking IMDb or his social media to get a more up-to-date picture of what he's got going on.
