Air conditioner is running but not cooling properly - what's the problem?

At my place in the apartment, the mobile air conditioner has been running for two weeks now, but it's just not cooling properly. The temperature drops by a maximum of 2-3 degrees. The unit is an LG Portable from 2023, and the filter actually looks clean. Could it be the hose, or is the unit just too weak for my room?

Mobile air conditioning units are generally weaker than fixed installations and often only cool by 2-4 degrees, which is normal. But check whether the exhaust hose is routed properly outside and isn't kinked - if warm air stays in the room instead of going out, the whole thing doesn't help at all. Room size plays a role too, these things are really designed for smaller spaces. The filter is important, but if it's clean and the unit should theoretically be sized for your room according to specs, I'd bet more on the hose and positioning being the issue.

Don't assume the filter alone is the problem - even if it looks clean, cooling performance can collapse if the condenser is clogged inside. It happens faster than you'd think and you can't see it from the outside at all. Check whether the exhaust hose is really sitting tight and isn't leaking air anywhere; even tiny leaks will destroy the whole efficiency. If both of those are fine and your room is bigger than maybe 20 square meters, the LG is just not powerful enough for it - portable units aren't exactly powerhouses.
