I need to change my heating system in my 1-bedroom apartment in Lyon and I'm torn between installing an air-to-air heat pump or sticking with electric radiators. Is it true that a heat pump uses less energy? I know the installation is more expensive, but I'd like to know if it's really worth it over 10 years.
An air-air heat pump really does consume way less than electric radiators, like 30-40% less depending on conditions! In Lyon you've got winters that aren't too extreme so it's pretty favorable for a heat pump. Over 10 years it's generally worth it yeah, especially if you're gonna stay in the apartment for a while and you take advantage of government grants - that changes things quite a bit financially. The thing is you gotta size the installation properly or you won't get the comfort you're after!
