Best way to deal with hand fatigue during boxing sparring sessions?

Michael Martin GB 🔍 Enthusiast 👁 100 ⚑ Report Martial Arts

I've been boxing for about 8 months now and whenever I do sparring, my hands and forearms get absolutely exhausted by round 3 or 4. My grip strength just dies and I can't keep my hands up properly. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong with my technique?

that's pretty normal at 8 months in - your grip and shoulder stabilizers just aren't conditioned enough yet to hold tension for full rounds. the thing is, you're probably gripping too hard instead of staying relaxed, which burns through your forearms way faster than it should. focus on keeping your hands loose and your shoulders down between combos, then tighten only when you're actually throwing; also work dedicated grip exercises like farmer's carries or dead hangs outside the ring, maybe 2 - 3 times a week. your technique will get sharper as your conditioning improves, so don't stress too much about it yet.
