I bought a Renault Clio from 2010 at a dealership three months ago and now they're asking me to pay for an engine repair that costs 800 euros. The seller said it was in perfect condition. Do I have the right to claim?
It depends on where you bought it and what your contract says, but generally after 3 months it's hard to claim defects if you didn't report them before. I'd recommend checking the warranty they gave you and talking to the dealership to see if you can negotiate something, but legally most countries have short time limits for these kinds of things.
What matters is whether there's proof that the problem already existed when you bought the car, because that changes everything - if the engine was already damaged at that point, the seller would be responsible even if months have passed. Ask the dealership for a detailed mechanical report and compare it to what you signed; if the contract says "sold as is" with no warranty, that's more complicated, but if they promised it was in perfect condition, that's a strong argument for making a claim.
