In Spain, a dismissal via WhatsApp is not legally valid. The law requires that the dismissal be communicated in person or, at minimum, through an official document that you can keep and that serves as proof. A WhatsApp message doesn't meet those requirements because it's too informal and can be easily deleted. The company is obligated to give you a written and formal notification, ideally delivered in hand or by certified mail.

What you should do is save all screenshots of those WhatsApp conversations as evidence that they tried to dismiss you in such an irregular way. Then, contact an employment lawyer or go to the Mediation, Arbitration and Conciliation Services (SMAC) of your autonomous community to report this. If the company still doesn't make a formal dismissal, you have the right to keep going to work and collect your salary, because technically they haven't made a valid dismissal.

Keep in mind that they also can't dismiss you simply by stopping payment or not assigning you tasks. They need to follow the procedure correctly, with official documentation. If they tell you to sign something later, review it carefully or take it to a lawyer before signing anything, because they could try to get you to ratify the irregular dismissal.
