Are you trying to reduce noise coming from outside or other rooms? Cork works decently for soundproofing, especially for mid-to-high frequency noise, but it's not great if your problem is low frequencies (like heavy music or traffic). It really depends on the thickness and how you install it: at least 2-3 cm helps, but if you want serious results you should also consider an air gap behind the covering 🎯 Basically, it's an "okay solution if you're on a tight budget" kind of thing, not a powerhouse like professional acoustic panels.
Cork isn't really the most effective material for actual sound insulation - it works better for dampening noise than truly blocking it! If you want to reduce sounds coming from outside or other rooms, you'd get better results with rockwool panels or acoustic foam, which absorb way more sound. Cork is decent for vibrations and some general dampening, but on its own it won't solve serious acoustic problems - it's more of an aesthetic compromise with some extra benefits!
