I'm starting to edit vlogs on my computer. I heard that DaVinci Resolve is free and powerful, but CapCut also seems convenient. Which one should I pick for editing 4K video with effects and color correction? My machine has a Ryzen 5 and GTX 1660.
DaVinci Resolve is definitely better for what you're doing - it's way more powerful for color correction and handles 4K without much trouble even on your hardware, while CapCut is more for mobile content and quick edits. Resolve is admittedly trickier to learn, but if you're serious about vlogging, it's worth it.
People above already said the right thing about DaVinci Resolve, I'll just add from personal experience. I also started with CapCut back in the day, thought I'd quickly edit something and be done with it, but when I needed proper color correction and 4K work, I realized it's a tool for something completely different. On your Ryzen 5 with GTX 1660 DaVinci Resolve will be pretty comfortable - I know people who work with similar hardware and manage just fine. CapCut is definitely more convenient interface-wise for beginners, effects apply fast there, but for serious 4K editing it'll constantly frustrate you.
From practice: DaVinci Resolve has a full-fledged Fusion for special effects, an excellent Color Page for grading, and support for a ton of formats. Yeah, the interface is chunkier than CapCut, steeper learning curve, but it's worth it. If you're planning to grow your channel and develop further, better get used to professional software right away. You can use CapCut for quick edits on your phone between other stuff, but do your main editing in Resolve. My advice: download both, spend a week or two on DaVinci Resolve and you'll see the difference is pretty significant.
Both will work with your hardware, but I'd still recommend DaVinci Resolve - I've been working with video on marketplaces for three years now and I can see that for 4K and color correction it's really more convenient, and you'll eventually have to switch from CapCut when you want to do something more complex. True, Resolve has a steeper learning curve though - are you ready to spend time learning it?
