Do Northern Ireland schools have to let girls wear trousers now?

So apparently from next year, schools in Northern Ireland will have to give girls the option to wear trousers instead of skirts if they want to. Sounds like they're catching up with most other places that already allow this. Wonder if there's been pushback from some schools or if this is just a formal rule being put in place.

From September 2022, Northern Ireland schools have been required to allow girls to wear trousers as part of their uniform if they choose to. The policy came through the Department of Education guidance, though implementation has been uneven across schools - some embraced it quickly while others dragged their feet or found workarounds. There was definitely pushback from certain schools citing tradition or uniform consistency concerns, but the rule stuck and most have now fallen in line, even if it took a bit of time and occasional complaints from parents.
