I get it. I just started working at an animal clinic and joined the vet tech Discord and there's SO much inside joke stuff already from before I got there. Like people will just reference some random thing that happened months ago and I'm just sitting there like ??? But I've realized if you just stick around long enough and keep reading the history you eventually figure out what's going on, at least most of it. It's kinda like how every friend group has their own language anyway, Discord just makes it more obvious I guess.
I totally understand that feeling - it's like showing up to a new team halfway through the season and everyone's already got their playbook down. Give it a few weeks though, and you'll start catching on to the running gags, plus people tend to explain things once they realize you're new.
Totally normal feeling, especially joining an established group. The good news is those jokes usually get explained pretty quick if you ask, and you'll start picking up on the patterns pretty fast once you're around the conversation more.
