Depends on which series and how much the first season grabbed you. It's true that a lot of them drop off after that, but generalizing won't help you - some shows actually get better once the plot picks up momentum and the characters develop. Instead of committing to anything: just watch an episode and see for yourself if it still feels like good storytelling or if it just seems played out.

The worst thing you can do is give a series a chance across the board just because the first season was okay. A lot of series lose massive quality after that - the creators have no idea where the story should go, or viewership drops and the budget gets cut. It happens all the time. But there's also the opposite: some series get significantly better from season two on, because the characters are established and the plot finally picks up momentum.

It really depends on what the series is about. With mystery series, where the puzzle carries all the suspense, it's often not worth continuing if the first season already cleared up the most important stuff - then the rest is just filler. With character dramas or comedy series, season two can be really great because the chemistry between the characters is already there and you can dig deeper. Best thing is to just check how other viewers rated the next season instead of going in blind. Trust the ratings from the platforms you use, and read a few reviews where people actually say whether the story still makes sense or whether it gets absurd.

I wouldn't say across the board that you should drop a series after season 1 - sometimes it only really gets good once the characters are established 🎬 But what I find super helpful is this: just watch the first two or three episodes of season 2 instead of diving straight into all of them. That way you'll quickly figure out if it's still worth continuing or if the series has really gone downhill. Saves you a lot of time and disappointment if you're already skeptical about it.
