Does having kids actually give your life more meaning?

I'm 34 and everyone around me either has children or is planning to. They talk about how having kids completely changed their perspective on life and gave them real purpose. But I'm not sure if that's genuine fulfillment or just what people tell themselves to justify the massive time and money commitment. Is parenthood actually the answer to feeling like your life matters, or is that just cultural pressure?

People genuinely do experience a shift in what feels important when they have kids, but that's not the only path to meaning - plenty of folks build it through work they care about, relationships, creativity, or just investing in their community. The trick is figuring out what *you* actually want versus what you think you're supposed to want, because having kids as a solution to feeling adrift tends to go badly for everyone involved.
