A drastic change in fuel consumption like that is almost never just a coincidence. Most likely you've got something simple like clogged air or fuel filters, worn spark plugs, or low tire pressure (that affects things more than you'd think). It could also be that the oxygen sensor is failing, which throws off the engine and makes it burn more gas. I'd recommend taking it to a mechanic to get it diagnosed, because if you wait too long the problem can get worse and you'll end up spending way more.

If consumption shot up that fast, before you spend money on expensive diagnostics check the basic stuff: clogged air and fuel filters make a huge difference, and also check if any warning light is on in the dashboard - sometimes the oxygen sensor fails and the computer enriches the fuel mixture without you noticing. What others don't mention: try filling up at the same gas station for a week and compare consumption, because sometimes switching pumps or weird brands can affect it more than you'd think, especially in newer cars that are more sensitive. If none of that changes things, then it's worth getting the car scanned at a shop.
