Epoxy resin is more resistant to water and scratches, perfect if you cook often and want something that'll last without issues 💪 Microcement, on the other hand, is more aesthetically pleasing and warm, but it requires more maintenance and regular sealing if you don't want it to stain.
Don't let anyone convince you that one of these is the universal solution, because it really depends on how you use your kitchen and how much you're willing to invest in maintenance. What you don't often hear about is that epoxy resin, despite being practically indestructible, can get slippery when wet - and in a kitchen, with sinks and splashes everywhere, that can be a real problem. Microcement, on the other hand, is porous, so if you don't seal it properly (and I mean really properly) oil stains or wine just sit there and look ugly.
For me, the real question is: how much time do you want to spend cleaning and protecting your floor? Resin is pretty low-maintenance - you wash it and that's it. Microcement needs periodic treatments to stay in shape, sealing every now and then, and honestly it's never quite as good as when it's brand new. If you cook a lot and don't want to think about it, go with resin. If aesthetics are the priority and you can give it attention, microcement holds up.
One more thing: the upfront cost of resin is often lower, but microcement can last a lifetime if you don't rough it up. It's not like one fails while the other wins - it's just that you need to ask yourself what bothers you more: cleaning frequently without worries, or having a nice-looking result but with maintenance responsibilities.
