The calculation is actually pretty simple: divide the charging costs per kWh by the charging power - with off-peak electricity you pay 18 cents for a full charge, with a fast charger 55 cents, so you should always charge at home if you have the time 🔌 Charging at home is always worth it as long as you're not in a hurry, because the difference is just too big - even if you have to wait two hours, you save a ton compared to fast charging.

But with your ID.5 there's one more thing you need to keep in mind: charging power plays a huge role in the actual costs. At night on your wallbox you might charge at 11 kW, with the supercharger you get 150+ kW at first - but then the charging power drops massively towards the end. So if you only want to charge from 10 to 80 percent, the fast charger is way more efficient than if you use it for a full charge.
