Technically you can, but it takes forever - the ID.4 battery will charge for hours, giving you roughly 2-3 km of range per hour, so a full charge will take a day or more. It's not dangerous for the car itself, but make sure the outlet is in good condition and the wiring can handle the load, otherwise there's a risk of the wire overheating or the breaker tripping.

You can't just plug it directly into a 220V outlet like that - it's dangerous for both the car and your wiring. The built-in charger in the ID.4 is designed for specific parameters, and a regular household outlet doesn't meet the power and protection requirements. The ID.4 can indeed be charged from a regular 220V outlet, but there are some important nuances. The main thing people usually overlook is the condition of your home electrical wiring. If it's over 15-20 years old, it might be designed for lower loads, and prolonged EV charging will put serious stress on old cables. Before you plug the car directly into an outlet, it's worth asking an electrician to check whether the grid can handle a constant load of 2-3 kW for extended periods. If the wiring is fine, then in a pinch this option works for topping up overnight, but as a permanent solution it's inconvenient and not cost-effective.
