mAh stands for milliamp-hours, a conventional unit for measuring the energy a power bank can deliver. In practice, you'll lose about 20-30% in conversions, so the actual capacity is lower than what's advertised. An iPhone charges at roughly 2500-3000 mAh depending on the model, an iPad at 5000-7000 mAh. If you're rarely on the road and can find an outlet at least once a day, 10000 mAh is enough - one full phone charge with some to spare. If you're often out all day and charging both devices, go for 20000 mAh instead, then you'll be able to recharge your iPhone a few times and your iPad once.
